The Hudson County Sheriff’s Office has received $ 63,228 in grants from three different organizations to continue participating in national safety campaigns.

The funding came from the 2018 distracted driving crackdown “U Drive U Text U Pay” grant, the “Click It or Ticket” program and the Clean Communities grant, contributing $ 40,000, $ 5,500 and $ 17,728, respectively.

The U Drive Text U Pay grant and Click it or Ticket program grant money will cover overtime salaries for Hudson County sheriff officers for extra hours spent manning checkpoints.

One campaign is designed to deter drivers from using their phones while driving through visible enforcement throughout Hudson County; while the second program puts extra police on the streets to enforce the seatbelt laws.

The Clean Communities Grant will fund efforts to reduce litter through education and enforcement programs.
