A boy was sent to the hospital tonight after trying to hang from a light rail train and then falling off, an NJ Transit official told The Jersey Journal.
The boy, who is possibly a teen, was attempting to hang on the outside of a Hudson-Bergen Light Rail train car at the Martin Luther King Drive station in Jersey City about 7:10 tonight, said Jim Smith, a spokesman for NJ Transit.
The boy then fell down onto the track bed as the train began moving toward West Side Avenue, Smith said.
It is unclear if the boy was struck by the train. He was taken to Jersey City Medical Center with an injury, but it was not life-threatening, Smith said.
The boy was charged as a juvenile with defiant trespassing, as well as interference with transportation.
Service is currently operating in both directions using a single track and is subject to delays.
