Former N.J. home of music mogul Russell Simmons on market for $18.9M (PHOTOS)

Simmons and his ex-wife, Kimora Lee, sold the home for $ 10 million in 2011.

Music mogul Russell Simmons’ former home, which is described as one of the “most extraordinary estates in the New York Metropolitan area,” went on the market for $ 18.9 million over the weekend, according to its Trulia listing.

Simmons and his now-ex-wife, Kimora Lee, who is a model and fashion designer, bought the 19,075-square-foot Saddle River mansion in 2001 for $ 13.5 million before selling the property for $ 10 million in 2011, according to property records.

Located on nearly 4 acres, the home, which has eight bedrooms and 15 bathrooms, has high-end amenities littered throughout, starting with the massive grand foyer that has a dual staircase and ballroom-like chandelier.

Elsewhere in the home is a multi-room kitchen, a 2,000-square-foot master suite, according to the New York Post, an elegant dining room, a wood-paneled office, and a “Madison Avenue-style” boutique closet.

It doesn’t stop there. Also inside is an indoor pool, a gym and sauna area, a grand salon, a movie theater and smart home technology. According to the listing, the home has been updated since Simmons owned it. The updates include new mechanicals and a new slate roof. The current owner of the property is listed as Fox Hedge Manor, a limited liability company.

Outside of the home, there is plenty to do on the 4 acres, including an outdoor pool, a full-service cabana, multiple waterfalls, a koi pond and patios, as well as a seven-car garage.

“A rare opportunity for the discerning buyer,” the listing states.

Property taxes were $ 101,900 in 2017. According to property records, the home was last assessed at just under $ 11 million.

As evidenced by the various listing prices of the home over the past decade, how much the home is actually worth varies. According to Zillow, when the Simmonses first listed the home in 2007, they did so for $ 23.9 million before continually slashing the price. It sold for $ 10 million in February 2011.

The couple divorced in 2006, and according to multiple reports, Kimora Lee Simmons and the couple’s children were living in the home when it sold.

Shortly before it sold, the couple had your run-of-the-mill yard sale, selling a bed once owned by the clothing designer Gianni Versace for $ 200,000, a $ 2,000 pillow, a $ 100,000 painting and $ 3 mugs, according to an Associated Press report.

Russell Simmons, a Queens native, is most well-known for co-founding the record label Def Jam Recordings, which has worked with artists such as Kanye West, Nas, 2 Chainz, Fabolous and Jeezy.

Simmons has come under intense scrutiny in recent years over his treatment of women. A New York Times report in December 2017 detailed the story of four women who alleged they were victims of violent sexual behavior by Simmons, dating as far back as 1988.

“I vehemently deny all these allegations,” Simmons told The Times in a statement.
