An auction of hundreds of artworks by emerging and established artists, including some who are part of Aferro's artist studio program, as well as live music in four languages.
Gallery Aferro will celebrate its 15th anniversary in downtown Newark with its 10th annual Come As You Are benefit art auction and party on Saturday.
The gala will feature the auction of hundreds of artworks by emerging and established artists, including some who are part of Aferro’s artist studio program.
During the celebration, the gallery will honor James Abruzzo, global head of nonprofit practice for DHR International, which advises nongovernmental and cultural organizations, foundations, and social service and educational institutions throughout the world.
Gallery Aferro, under founding directors Emma Wilcox and Evonne Davis, provides studio space to dozens of artists and mounts regular exhibitions and art events, with a roster of community, LGBTQ and educational programs.
The anniversary celebration proceeds will support Aferro’s art and artist-in-residence programs, as well as community programs such as Aferro’s Mobile Portrait Studio.
The evening also will include live music — in four languages — performed by local musicians Joya Angola Thompson Nadine LaFond, and Emily Turonis, as well as food and summer cocktails.
The party runs from 7 to 10 p.m., with a VIP preview of the artwork for auction beginning at 6. The gallery, at 73 Market St., also will host a homemade artisan ice cream bar and offer door prizes, including getaway packages to New York and Florida, shopping sprees, dance lessons and art supplies.
Tickets are $ 45 and $ 125 for a VIP ticket. All tickets are available at the door or in advance at aferro.org.
