Kiley White was charged with theft by deception and harassment in the scam, according to Egg Harbor Township police.

The 26-year-old’s alleged fraud targeted Linda and Steve Evans, NBC10 reported. As part of the ruse, White reportedly groaned, claimed she had nowhere else to stay, and posed as her own nurse in text messages.

“Every day was just like she has one more day to live,” Linda Evans told NBC10.

The Evans family met White through a mutual friend in June, according to the station, which first reported the story. Relatives of the couple became suspicious and police launched an investigation.

White, of Galloway, was also suspected in similar schemes that occurred in Pennsylvania and New Jersey, but not charged in those cases, authorities said.

“On each occasion, she has preyed on the sympathy and compassion of others, receiving services and goods from those victims whom she scammed,” Egg Harbor Township police said in a statement.

White was arrested Thursday and released, according to police.

Authorities did not immediately provide additional details on the case. Anyone with information was asked to email detectives at cid@ehtpd.com.
