New York Jets wide receiver Terrelle Pryor used to play for the Washington Redskins, who will host the Jets for 2018 joint training camp practices in Richmond, Virginia.
The Jets still have some time before their joint practices with Washington in Richmond, Virginia. The three practices run from Aug. 12-14, before the teams meet for a preseason game at Washington on Aug. 16.
But Jets wide receiver Terrelle Pryor, who played for Washington last year, knows how his team will handle things if Washington’s defensive players try to take shots at him.
“We’re there to practice and get better,” Pryor said Thursday, after the Jets’ sixth training camp practice. “If I wanted to put my shoulder down and hit one of them — and get chippy, too — I’m sure I could do that. But that’s not why we’re there.
“If they take dirty shots, I’m sure we’ll handle that accordingly. You start trying to make it an individual thing, it takes away from our team. I don’t want to individualize myself.”
In June, Washington linebacker Zach Brown said his team’s defensive players would be eager to hit Pryor in the joint training camp practices with the Jets.
“The boys are going to have it out for him,” Brown said. “We can put hands on him now. The boys were already hot for what he was doing last year. Try to one-hand something while you’re with the Jets, you’re going to catch a forearm.”
Brown was (still is?) apparently peeved that Washington coach Jay Gruden didn’t want his defensive players to get overly physical with Pryor in practice last year. Pryor dealt with an ankle injury throughout last season, so Gruden’s approach seemingly makes sense.
Jets’ top camp position battles
Earlier in training camp with the Jets, Pryor brushed off Brown’s trash talk as “fun stuff.”
Pryor is back working in team periods after missing them earlier in camp, due to offseason ankle surgery. So he should be fully healthy — or close to it — for the Richmond practices.
