Tottenham falls out of title race, into top four battle

Huddersfield Town (14 points) and Fulham (17 points) need a miracle to stave off relegation

With just 10 matches to go in the 2018-19 Premier League campaign, absolutely nothing has been settled.

Last year at this point, Manchester City was cruising towards the title, 16 points clear at the top of the table.

But take a glance at this year’s table, and one thing is clear: the various races will come down to the final week of the season.

At the top, it has become a two-horse race again, as Tottenham decided over the last five days to sit out another trophy hunt. With losses to Burnley and Chelsea, the Hotspurs (60 points) are now nine points off Liverpool (69 points), and eight behind Manchester City (68 points).

But Tottenham may yet be in a race. Arsenal (56 points) and Manchester United (55 points) might drag the Spurs into a top four battle, especially if the Gunners can go to Wembley Saturday and get a result. Even Chelsea (53 points) will think it is in the fight sitting in sixth.

The battle for seventh, and a potential UEFA Europa League spot, currently sees Wolverhampton and Watford tied on points, with just one goal separating the clubs.

At the bottom, Newcastle United, led by Miguel Almiron, look more likely to finish in the top half than get dragged back into a relegation scrap. But the Magpies, like a whole host of teams around them, are not yet safe: 13th to 17th is separated by just four points.

The only thing that is clear? Huddersfield Town (14 points) and Fulham (17 points) need a miracle to stave off relegation. Currently, Southampton and Brighton sit on 27 points, so the two teams at the bottom would have to win more points over the final 10 games as they have in the first 28.

But which team will join them?

Premier League midweek schedule: Almiron shines for Newcastle

FUBO.TV GAME OF THE WEEKEND

While there is another Clasico on the docket Saturday in Spain (2:45 p.m. beIN Sports and Fubo.tv), the North London Derby will take center stage in England, and it comes at a fascinating time.

Arsenal and Tottenham open the Premier League festivities (7:30 a.m. NBC Sports and Fubo.tv) early, and although both teams headed off to Europe in midweek, their focus will solely be on this heated rivalry.

An Arsenal win could truly blow open the top four battle. The Gunners would move to within two points of Tottenham, while Manchester United could climb to within three with a win at home over Southampton.

On form, the two teams have been pretty even, although in the last five days, Tottenham has given the teams chasing it hope.

Can the Spurs stop the rot?
